[AWV🦊] What in the world is hitomezashi?

Greetings dear Chroniclers,

Spring is in the air, trees are budding, and life gets crazy. Isn't that just the way?

To relax and let the super-sonic-speed exercise-wheel squirrels in my brain have a rest, I like to do a simple craft. Lately I've been doing sashiko. Specifically a style called hitomezashi, where stitches are done on a grid and each stitch is the length of a grid space.

Here's a set of coasters I made for a friend's birthday.

I've been following along with the tutorials from The Green Wrapper on YouTube. She carefully explains each step and they're easy to follow.
