Hello ,
We’re delighted to share highlights from our special Books and Chit Chat discussion featuring Jean Lee, AlzAuthors co-founder and author of the touching memoir Alzheimer’s Daughter. If you missed our latest gathering, you’ll definitely want to check out the replay—now available on our YouTube channel and podcast, Untangling Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Episode Spotlight: Jean Lee’s Unique Alzheimer’s Journey
Jean joined us for a candid, compassionate discussion about her experience caring for both parents after they were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s—on the same day. She opened up about the challenges, heartbreak, and hope that shaped her memoir, and revealed the moving story of finding her parents’ WWII love letters while cleaning out their home. These treasured letters not only deepened her memoir, but also provided insight into the enduring bond her parents shared—even as their memories faded.
Book Club Highlights:
- The power of journaling: Jean’s detailed notes provided vital information for her parents’ early diagnosis, and later helped shape her book.
- Navigating tough transitions: Jean recounted the emotional ups and downs of moving her parents between care settings, offering reassurance to families facing similar decisions.
- The healing power of stories: Both Jean and our hosts reflected on how sharing honest accounts—whether through fiction or memoir—can offer comfort, validation, and guidance to others on the dementia journey.
Words from Jean Lee:
“It is coming together with AlzAuthors that brought healing to me. We believe in bringing healing to others through the stories and personal experiences we share.”
