Jen Randazzo's children's book "Grandpa and Lewy"

Hello ,

—Writing this “on the road.” As I mentioned earlier this year, my husband retired, as of December 31 and we’ve set off on a month-long journey of discovery. Pulling our tiny camper, we’re currently heading south, with a plan to arrive in the hill country of Texas in time to see the fields of bluebonnets bloom.

I’m always struck by the vastness and diversity of the countryside. It is now “Day 2” and we’ve crossed the rolling hills of southern Montana, pockets of snow still evident in the shadows of these hills. We’ve watched cattle grazing on the plains of Wyoming and I’m currently gazing at the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Over the past almost eight years with AlzAuthors, I have read many books about dementia caregiving and learned about another diversity—diversity found in our pathways of care. Like the world’s landscape, I’m reminded yet again of the uniqueness of each caregiving situation, marveling at the capacity of the human brain to cope, change and love, no matter what.

Introducing Our Newest Author

image

We’re pleased to introduce our newest AlzAuthor, Jennifer Randazzo, author of the children’s book, “Grandpa and Lewy.” After her father was diagnosed with both Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s disease, she watched as her children became afraid of one of the people who loved them most. From this experience, she decided to write a book to “serve as a resource that my kids never had.”

Jen shares:

“Lewy Body Dementia is reported to be the second most common form of dementia. In my opinion, it is the most devastating, yet most people have still never heard of it. My hope is that "Grandpa & Lewy" will not only help children who are faced with loving someone through Lewy; I hope that it will also help raise awareness of this terribly devastating disease."
