2022 HFC Summer Book Series Session 1 with Ruth Stevens, author of Stage Seven
Jul 13, 2022 12:46 am
Dear AlzAuthor,
It's summer over here for the management team, all living in North America, and, wherever you are, I hope July is a good month for you, too. It's important to take time to make memories, and summer vacation is prime memory-making time. Even a staycation can help recharge your batteries, which is essential for caregivers and others concerned with dementia to maintain their overall health and wellbeing. We're kicking back a bit, enjoying family and vacation time, and taking a break the last two weeks in July, which means there will not be a newsletter in your inbox from us until August 3rd. Featured author posts resume that day with poet Linda Austin, and podcasts will resume August 10th with Patti Callahan Henry, author of The Favorite Daughter. From then on we will alternate posts and podcasts each week. Happy summer to you and your loved ones!

On the Podcast
Welcome to the first in our 2022 Summer Series with HFC. We kicked off this season on June 14th with Ruth Stevens’ novel, Stage Seven.
Ruth Stevens believes in stories that make you laugh and cry. She says, “I like to write about the topics that worry me the most. Since I worry about a great many things, there is never a shortage of material." A resident of Torrance, California, Ruth is a former public relations professional (in New York and Los Angeles) and proud member of the Dramatists Guild of America and Women’s Fiction Writers Association. She's been writing professionally for her entire career—including hundreds of articles for magazines, newspapers, and journals—but creative writing is her passion. She took up this endeavor full-time after quitting her day job in 2017. At last count, she’s written two plays and three novels. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, hiking, wine tasting, hip hop, Broadway musicals, movies, leading a book club, and visiting her grandsons in Manhattan. Stage Seven is her first novel.
Ruth says, “I was determined that Stage Seven: A Novel should not be a relentless downer. A big believer in the power of laughter to ease our pain and anxiety, I always incorporate humor in my writing, no matter how serious the topic—while still taking care to respect the subject matter.”

A special request
From Michael Ellenbogen, author of From the Corner Office to Alzheimer's:
Hi. I was wondering if there was a writer that may be willing to help me get my name into Wikipedia. I have lot of things already written down about me in my two books and can share many other emails, like my resumes, that can give them more information about me. I can also speak to them verbally about some of my accomplishments and goals which I have written somewhere. I am no longer capable of doing things like that and I am in no rush. I have done some amazing things that most have no idea because I don’t share it with others. This is something very important to me. I would think out of all of those writers there may be one willing to help me on this. I can turn them over to some folks who really know me. While I don’t know for sure, I think I have accomplished what no other person who is living with dementia by far. I have played a role in so many organizations that are out there today. Thanks so much. Michael
