Hello ,
A dementia diagnosis is difficult, so people react in a number of ways. For Sky Yardley and his wife Jane Dwinell, it meant embarking on a multi-state tour to discuss the impact and reality of a dementia diagnosis as a way to process it for themselves and combat the stigma many face. In this episode of “Untangling Alzheimer’s & Dementia," you’ll hear Jane Dwinell tell how facing her husband’s dementia on his terms impacted this incredible couple and led to not just a speaking tour, but a lively blog that was later turned into the award winning book, “Alzheimer’s Canyon: One Couple’s Reflections on Living with Dementia.”
Jane says: “He wanted to meet his people. He wanted to meet other people with dementia. And by doing this church stuff and the workshops, it was his people all over the place.”

Our Most Recent Author, Angie Buxton-King
Angie tells us:
I hope that my book, The Magic Man and His Dementia Adventure, provides you with an insight into growing old or mature, making life choices that suit us better in the future, and planning, and managing finite resources. My book describes our own personal journey through dementia; don’t worry it will have laugh-aloud moments, magic moments, along with more thought-provoking moments.

Join us for February’s Book Club Discussion
February's read is "Be Brave: A Wife's Journey Through Caregiving" by Florrie Munat, a writer who cared for her husband with Lewy Body disease following a stroke. Unlike other book clubs we don't require you actually read the book, although, obviously, that makes for a better discussion. But if you're short on time and would like to meet the author first you are welcome to join us.
Here's the schedule through April:
- February 27th 7pm EST: Florrie Munat – Be Brave, a Wife’s Journey Through Caregiving
- March 26th 7pm EST: Ruth Stevens– Stage Seven, a novel
- April 30th 7pm EST: A gathering of poets for National Poetry Month: featuring Sherri Levine, Stealing Flowers from the Neighbors; Sue Fagalde Lick, Gravel Road Ahead; Daniel Potts, MD, Bringing Art to Life; Margaret Stawowy, co-editor of Storms of the Inland Sea, an anthology with Jim Cokas
