Dear Friend of AlzAuthors,
Thanks for your contributions to AlzAuthors. Every author's story, each Facebook and LinkedIn share, Instagram like and comment, and retweet furthers our mission to bring quality resources to caregiver. As you read our weekly emails and follow our social media posts, please continue to share our content across your own platforms, including any online or in-person support groups you attend. In this newsletter youโll find two virtual events coming up soon, one for you and one for your readers. Share widely: there are millions of caregivers out there starving for information and insight, and we have it. Remember: you are not alone, on either the caregiver or the author journey.
Introducing
Ross has academic qualifications in psychology, neuroscience and health science. Even so, he is honest when he shares that he struggled right along with the rest of his family to understand and come to terms with what was happening to his mother and how best to move forward after her diagnosis of dementia.
Ross writes:
I wrote Dementia and You: Care, Prevention and Reducing Risk to ease the burden and with the hope that others will be spared some of the confusion associated with a dementia diagnosis. My book explains what dementia is and what people can do to manage and care for their loved ones. At the same time, it is designed to be easily read and understood.

On The Podcast
The caregiver journey can either make us or break us. Sue Ryan experienced dementia for more than 30 years with several loved ones, including her father, and now her husband. These journeys have opened her heart and mind to greater possibilities, to understand herself better, and to create opportunities to share her hard-earned knowledge with other caregivers, who may be lost and unsure of their way. She is the author of the international best-selling book, Our Journey of Love: 5 Steps to Navigate Your Caregiving Journey, which offers readers lessons, tips, and tricks she learned from decades of caregiving. In this episode, we discuss dementia care during COVID, how to attain massive acceptance and radical presence for your caregiving journey, the Scarlett OโHara approach to caregiving, and the value of V8 moments. Our Management Team is Growing
AlzAuthors welcomes Rosanne Corcoran to the team, who joins us as an Assistant Manager to help launch, grow, and foster our mission, including helping with our virtual caregiver events (4 this year!), finding conferences to spread the word about our resources, launching an online store for apparel and other swag, and more. We're thrilled to have her passion, spirit, and insights to extend our reach.
Rosanne knows the difficulties and loneliness that Alzheimer's caregivers experience: She cared for her own mother at home for six years. The lack of meaningful Alzheimerโs resources available to her on her journey motivated her to create, host, and produce Daughterhood The Podcast: For Caregivers, Rosanne is also a Circle Leader for the Daughterhood Circle for family caregivers in Pennsylvania, with virtual meetings twice a month. She joined AlzAuthors in 2020, and was featured on the blog in July, 2021 with her podcast and blog, Hey Roe, which addresses the personal side of caregiving and offers resources.
In addition, she is an actionist with Leezaโs Care Connection to assist in amplifying their message; moderator of a monthly global DAWN Method dementia support group for family caregivers trained in Judy Cornishโs DAWN Method, a person-centered care approach to dementia; and recipient of caregiving.comโs 2021 Visionary Award. She's been featured and included in articles in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Barronโs, Next Avenue and others, discussing everything from caregiver burden to the portrayal of dementia in film. Next Avenue selected as Editorโs Choice her personal essay, Dear Dementia, as part of their Telling Our Stories series.
Rosanne is happy to speak to caregivers regarding their own journey. She offers support, validation and resources. Contact her at rosannecc@gmail.com, and follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Our Next AlzAuthors Live! Event: February 9th!
Let's not define romance as wine and roses or diamonds and dancing as the TV ads want us to believe. Let's define romance as that little spark between you and your loved one that makes you a couple. It can be found and thrive in the tiny habits and rituals enjoyed over a lifetime of togetherness: a quick cup of coffee savored each morning before the demands of the day, catching up over dinner, the glance across the room at a crowded event that means โIโm ok,โ or โCan we go now?โ, knowing theyโd love that cute little thing you saw at the market and buying it, building a home, raising children, traveling, vacations, family troubles, and more. We may define romance in our own ways, but when the overwhelming changes that dementia brings to a relationship threaten to stifle the romantic spark, we can keep it lit, treasuring our special connectedness with our partner. Please join us for an AlzAuthorsLive! Event at 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 9. Love Stories: Keeping Romance Alive in Dementia Care will introduce you to four couples facing a dementia diagnosis and how their love continues to sustain their relationship.
