Hello ,
As October rolls into autumn with all of its splendor, I'm reminded of the fragility of life and the gentleness and beauty that can be found as life wanes. While we witness the passing of summer in brilliant colors - red, amber, rust, and apricot - a last hurrah before the barrenness of winter moves in, we celebrate the ending of another of nature's cycles, and prepare for the next. The glorious trees shed their foliage with grace and dignity, reminding us that everything has its season, its own time.
This week's author, Martha Brosio, shares with us her deeply personal and moving story of her husband Richard's final days with dementia. In The Last Ten Days, she recounts their journey as Richard chose VSED (voluntarily stopping eating and drinking) to end his life on his own terms.
Martha writes:
Most people that I shared my story with had never heard of this. I wanted dementia patients and their families to know that help is available, so the book includes information, guidance, and resources for those who might want to explore VSED and other available end-of-life options.
There is much to be learned from Richard and Martha, and another piece of the puzzle in dementia care to be pondered.

Take Two! Everything You've Always Wanted to Know About Dementia (but were afraid to ask) part two
On September 1st, we gathered five of our authors, all living well with dementia, for a candid discussion about their lives with cognitive impairment. This was an invigorating, inspirational conversation, but we goofed. We forgot to hit the record button until we were well into the talk! And we had promised to put out a YouTube video and podcast with this content. Rather than publish a truncated version of this event, the authors have all generously agreed to gather again for a redo on Tuesday, October, 24 at 10:30 am EST. This time, we will be sure to hit record at the onset of our time together! If you attended the previous event, you can be assured of gaining the replay of this one. If you were unable to attend the previous event, you now have a second chance to join in. Weβre grateful to our authors for sharing even more of their precious time with us, and look forward to seeing you in our Zoom Room.
