Hello ,
One of the things we know about Alzheimerโs and most dementias is that there are things we can do in life to have a healthy brain. We can eat healthy, exercise, and keep learning. Engaging our brains through learning new skills is generally fun for me, yet I can tell you, learning how to use various software programs to put together a podcast has been a steep learning curve.
The best thing about the process is that I get to listen to the interviews Marianne and I do for โUntangling Alzheimerโs and Dementiaโ over again in depth. Listening to our episode for this week, a conversation with dementia specialist Tami Anastasia, is hearing anew her commitment to helping caregivers find compassion for themselves. She speaks to the need to try new things as caregivers, and find compassion for ourselves if something doesnโt work out as a means to building our confidence and self-esteem. Caregiving can take a lot out of us, and we often need to learn new skills as we try to meet our person where they are in their disease. Iโm finding the same thing in learning how to be a podcaster! I can feel the synapses snapping.
As you listen to this new episode, โUntangling the P.A.C.E. Model with Tami Anastasia,โ I hope you find encouragement and solace in your journey. Keep going. Keep learning.
As always, we would love it if you sent this email to 1-3 people you know need to hear the message, drop us a five-star review on iTunes, and let us know how you think we can improve the show!

Our Most Recent Author
โ. . . Caregivers may have difficulty finding time to read a book, but not a poem or two. As for relatability, I like to think of the Duke Ellington quote: โThere are two kinds of music. Good music and the other kind.โ I believe that quote is applicable to poetry as well.
Storms of the Inland Sea is not only a book but also a testament from a community of caregivers. We encompass myriad situations and challenges. Some have had more resources and support than others, but none of us were ever granted an easy path. We all have lost people dear to us before they die. How is it that the world seems genuinely ignorant of this tragedy? How can they not see caregivers as heroes on heroic journeys?โ
