Meet Mary Crescenzo, author of "The Planet Alzheimer's Guide" and other news from AlzAuthors
Mar 01, 2022 8:40 pm
Dear AlzAuthor,
Thinking back to the inception of AlzAuthors.com, seven years ago, we continue to be completely amazed that we now have gathered 300+ books and blogs offering comfort and inspiration to light the way for others during what can be a dark journey. We thank each of you for allowing us to elevate your work and we thank you for writing a post for AlzAuthors.
Did you know we continue to elevate your work, even if you posted with us seven years ago? Susan Landeis, our manager who specializes in designing new graphics for our existing books, creates fresh graphics each day as we rotate through our authors. It takes about a year to produce a new graphic for each of you on our ever-growing list of authors. We push these graphics out on all of our social medias; Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. These posts provide content that you can use to retweet and like.
As you create your own social media content for your book, AlzAuthors encourages you to include the "recommended by AlzAuthors.com" logo on your work. You can find these logos on the Author's Tools page of our website. By doing so, you identify yourself as a part of this large and growing group seeking to lend comfort and reduce the stigma of dementia diseases.
As you read the remainder of this newsletter, you'll find it brimming full with information about upcoming live events for AlzAuthors and many opportunities for you to connect with our readers and followers as well as one another.

This week we introduce Mary Crescenzo, whose list of credentials include master teaching artist, public speaker, playwright as well as the author of the new book The Planet Alzheimer's Guide: 8 Ways the Arts Can Transform the Life of Your Loved One and Your Own.
Mary writes:
I wrote this how-to guide for caregivers, personal and professional, to offer step-by-step tips and techniques so caregivers, family and friends of those with this disorder can discover how interaction and communication, through painting, music, movement, storytelling, poetry and photography, can enrich the lives of loved ones as well as their own, even though they or those they care for may have no arts background.

On The Podcast: Rosanne Corcoran Untangles Dementia Care and the Sandwich Generation
Rosanne Corcoran cared for her mother over a 12-year span, starting as a stealth caregiver, to full time caregiver, to in-home, sandwich caregiver for her motherβs final 6 years. Finding herself part of a growing caregiving community in need of both support and critical information, she has conducted exhaustive research into caregiving strategies for aging parents. To assist this community, share information and provide support, she started a regional Daughterhood Circle in the Philadelphia suburbs in 2019. In November of that year, she created Daughterhood The Podcast: For Caregivers to engage a dynamic group of subject matter experts to help others navigate these uncharted, and many times, tumultuous waters. She also blogs at HeyRoe.com. A member of the AlzAuthors management team, she assists with the technological side of our virtual events, and offers much appreciated guidance and support.
In this episode, we discuss the difficulties she encountered in getting a proper medical diagnosis for her mother, caregiving during COVID, the pitfalls in being a competent caregiver, how to survive life in the sandwich generation, and the grief that comes when dementia care reaches its natural conclusion.

Love Stories Replay is on YouTube
Our recent virtual event, Love Stories: Keeping Romance Alive in Dementia Care, featuring Sue Ryan, Richard Creighton. Gincy Heins, and Tony Copeland-Parker was full of deep insights into dementia care between spouses, offering much enlightenment and ideas to all who attended. Some comments:
- Iβm impressed with the positive attitude of the caregivers and the strategies they employ.
