Hello ,

One certainty in life is change, and change has come to AlzAuthors. You may recall that we announced a new format to our platform early in June, focusing more on the podcast and streamlining our offerings. It starts this week.

Beginning today, we'll feature one new author and their book each month. They will be featured on the podcast, and will write the traditional introductory blog post. Later in the month, we'll also provide a replay of our monthly Aging & Amazing Books and Chit Chat discussion, featuring another of our more established authors. Thus, you will receive two podcasts each month available across all the podcasting platforms we use and our YouTube channel.

We'll continue to present the occasional AlzAuthors Live! discussion panels on a variety of topics, and replays will also appear on the podcast and YouTube channel. You'll receive bi-weekly emails but may hear from us in between if we have something we can’t wait to share.

In this way, we'll continue to provide quality resources for caregivers as well as carry on our mission to eradicate the silence and stigma that often accompanies a dementia diagnosis. Thank you for your support.

Marianne, Jean,Vicki, Ann, Susan, and Christy

Our Newest Author and Podcast

In some families, children and grandchildren are on the dementia journey alongside us. How do we explain to them the changes they may see in a beloved family member? What do we say about the amount of time we may spend caring for them? How do we include them in the process in ways that are meaningful and memorable? In this week's podcast, we discuss these questions with Jeanette Fazzari Jones, author of the beautifully illustrated children's book Meatballs for Grandpa. Jeanette is a kindergarten teacher from Kentucky whose own experience with her grandfather's dementia left a strong impression and motivates her to advocate for Alzheimer's and dementia awareness.

Our conversation delves into the importance of involving children in supporting family members with dementia, and the role of literature in conveying the emotional complexities of the condition. She vividly describes how the disease impacted her family dynamics, recalling the challenges they faced in maintaining their annual traditions while caring for her grandparents. Her experiences and insights offer a valuable perspective on navigating the challenges of dementia within families, making this episode a must-listen for anyone seeking to understand the multi-faceted effects of dementia and the power of storytelling and intergenerational connections in coping with these challenges.

In this episode, you will:

  • Learn effective ways to support family members with dementia, fostering understanding and connection within your family.
  • Discover an engaging children's book that raises dementia awareness, providing a valuable resource for educating young family members.
  • Explore the power of intergenerational cooking and memory, creating lasting bonds and cherished moments with your loved ones impacted by dementia.
  • Uncover caregiver support and resources to navigate the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia, empowering you with the knowledge and tools to provide the best care.
