Spotlighting Kacy Chamber's children's book "Sometimes Grandma and Grandpa Forget"
Mar 22, 2023 4:16 am
Hello ,
Do you know what occurred two days ago on March 20?
If you’re like me and have been eagerly anticipating it, you’ll say, “Yes, of course I know. Two days ago was the first official day of Spring, 2023!”
I know Mother Nature doesn’t always follow the calendar, but even the thought of warmer weather, longer days, the return of birdsong and the blooming of flowers makes my heart sing. And, yes, living in Montana means another snowstorm or two is definitely a possibility, but at this time of year, I also know the snow won’t last long under the warmth of the sun. I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors soaking up that warmth. How about you? What are you looking forward to with the arrival of spring?

Meet Kacy Chambers
Our Newest Author
Kacy shares: When I was a child my paternal grandmother, Godmother, and great aunt had dementia/Alzheimer’s. The adults never had a conversation with us (the children in the family) to explain what was going on with our loved ones. As children, we knew something was happening but had no idea that it was a medical condition or how to deal with it. There were so many unanswered questions and so many missed teachable moments.
I did not want my children to grow up having the same unanswered questions that I did.
Written in a children's story format, Sometimes Grandma and Grandpa Forget provides the perfect platform for parents to begin a much-needed conversation and help ease children's worries.

Our Latest Podcast
When Cindy Weinstein's father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in the 1980's, she was a graduate student at the University of California at Berkley, separated from her family in Florida by more than 3,000 miles. Her family's dementia journey had a long-lasting impact on her, and decades later she decided to write a book about it with the assistance of neurologist Bruce Miller, MD. The award-winning Finding the Right Words: a story of literature, grief and the brain is the tale of a daughter's grief, of how she was studying and mastering language while her father struggled with word-finding. In this episode, we discuss the shock of her father's death and her lifelong grief, her desire to study the language that surrounds a dementia diagnosis and her mission to help others by writing a book about it, and how working with Dr. Miller helped her better understand the changes dementia brought to her father's brain.
