Question of the Week
Q: What Jr. Leagues should I avoid if I want to play NCAA Hockey?
A: Before we dive into the list of leagues, we want to mention a few exceptions. First off, if you're young, then starting out in a lower Jr. league isn't the end of the world. We typically advise younger players to play either AAA or prep hockey before going to a lower-end Jr. league, but we have seen success stories of players climbing up the Jr. leagues from a young age. Second, if you're one of the best players on the best team in one of the leagues we'll mention, then there's still hope for NCAA hockey as well.
Now that's out of the way, here's our list:
- Any Jr. C league
- Most Jr. B leagues (exceptions: GOJHL & KIJHL)
- GMHL
- WSHL
- USPHL Elite
- EHL Premier
- Jr. AAA in Quebec (good calibre, NCAA focus & exposure is minimal)
- Jr. A in the Maritimes (good calibre, NCAA focus & exposure is minimal)
- Any other North American Jr. A league not mentioned in our Rankings video on YouTube
