Q: Do I need to take the SAT or ACT to play NCAA Hockey?

A: To start off, all NCAA D1 programs require you to take the SAT or ACT because they are all governed by the NCAA Eligibility Center. For NCAA D3 programs on the other hand, it varies by institution. Some conferences & programs, like the NESCAC, all require you to take the SAT or ACT as a way to stand out amongst a large pool of applicants in a competitive selection process. Other programs don't require you to take the SAT or ACT, but strongly recommend it as they use your test scores as a metric to give out a certain amount of scholarship money. And then several other programs don't use the SAT or ACT at all in their admissions or financial-aid process. All that said, we strongly recommend to all hockey players who have the NCAA option in mind to take the SAT or ACT because most programs will use your scores as a metric for admission and/or scholarships.
