Fast Forward

May 11, 2026 12:28 pm

It’s hard to run fast when you’re looking back. If you keep looking over your shoulder, you lose your forward focus.

I can think of a few sports where it’s common to see an athlete with their shoulder turned slightly to receive a pass, catch a ball, or pay attention to what else is going on.

They are scanning for information. A change of direction, a shift in body position, anything that helps complete the task at hand.

Our decisions today shape tomorrow. If you’re looking back, make sure it’s helping you complete the task at hand.

This week in the Sprint Social, we were looking at body positions when you are looking to go full tilt. To see parents and kids playing a tennis ball version of American football, with one throwing the ball back to their partner before setting off to receive a pass, was a joy to watch.

Sprinting, throwing, catching, while being open to receiving a pass -fast enough to move with intent, open enough to take in what's going on around you, that's a posture worth working on.

I hope you can join us this week, and if not, drop me a line, and I'll share what we are working on.

Before we go, I just want to say a few words about another posture, that of the underdog. A friend of mine is working to get a project off the ground, and it's proving to be hard work. The organisation is too big and too busy to care.

Good! Being the underdog is not a slight; it's an invitation to reimagine the constraints that exist :)

Think inside the box
