The games we play

Folks,
In the book The Coaching Habit, author Michael Bungay Stanier has a question he calls the opportunity cost question: “If you say yes to this, what are you saying no to?”
It's a great question. The reverse is also true.
Howard Luks reminds us that training capacity in later life carries a risk of injury, soreness, maybe even the odd ache and pain. Yet narrowing our options, saying no when we used to say yes — that’s only going one way.
Injuries we can recover from. A sedentary lifestyle, not so much.
If we say no to a game of Padel, a hike, or helping next door build a fence, what are we saying yes to?
I’m excited to be hosting an event soon with Mike Coulter, who is the Creative Director for the Do Lectures. Mike is self-confessed Manifesto nerd, and like me, he’s passionate about helping people make their mark. I’ll let you have the details next week, but for now, here’s a piece I wrote last week, about the value of writing.
For days like these:
Write for the times you doubt yourself.
Write for the times, you believe your own bullshit.
Above all, if you don’t know what to write, write the truth.
For days like these.
I’m going to leave you with a very cool lecture from the Do Lectures, from Anji Play, and the importance of risk in play.
Summer is coming,
Simon
P.S. If you have read the book, you can contribute by sending in your photos, writing a review, and sending this link to your coaching and teaching friends. Thank you in advance.
