Where do you want to put your attention?

Folks,

I’ve got an update on the idea of “age performance” if you want it; if not, skip these next two paragraphs.

It appears that Peter Attia has fallen for the correlation is not causation trap. That is to say that just because you carry an umbrella doesn’t make it more likely that you will experience rain. Tx to Nicholas Taleb for the heads up.

Yes, being reasonably fit is helpful, but beyond being reasonably fit, there are many more factors in play than just VO2 max. The discrepancy in health and ability between those who exercise and those who don’t is far too obvious to ignore. We just don’t need to focus solely on VO2 max.

This brings me to a brilliant social business; Play Netball, which connects individuals who want to play netball to teams and leagues in the local area. A staggering 66% of players have come to Play Netball as individuals, not as part of a team or friendship group, with 35,000 players registered in 150 locations across the UK.

What Play Netball has managed to do is what millions of pounds of sports development money has not. You can’t play netball on your own. In fact, you can’t even play it if there are 3 of you; find the energy, find the others.

It sounds simple, but it’s not. Find what people are looking to do, then find others who are ready and willing to do the same; that’s when we make a difference. The alternative is to be like the Twix brothers. If you have an example of Athletic Entrepreneurs bringing social value, I’d love to hear from you.

I’m going to leave you with some book notes: If it’s true that we all have a book in us  - and I have no reason to doubt it - then reading Your First 1000 Copies is a must.

Have a great week,

Simon
