Respond - Resist
Feb 02, 2026 6:18 pm
Folks,
If I have a theme from last week, it is respond - resist. A coaching conversation I had last week started with how to tinker with the message and ended with a realisation that it wasn't clear what the person actually wanted.
Write a blog, and a few people give you a thumbs up.
Suggest an idea in a meeting, and the conversation rolls on.
We hope that people respond.
Our heart sinks when they resist.
Respond - Resist.
Change the message. Change when and how you say it. Even change the messenger.
Or,
Check the conditions.
What conditions and skills are required for the response you seek?

The only things I measure currently are weight lifted and time sweating - pure signal, not noise. I'm considering others, but only if it's a strong signal, not this year's trend.
P.P.S. A reminder that there are two free coach development events in Feb:
