Snail mail for the win

Folks,

I'm going to start with a note I got in the post last week from the creator of The Dot, Peter H Reynolds. The magic of the note was in the time and care Peter had taken to craft his response to my sending him a copy of my book. A hand-drawn picture, a personal message, and gratitude for having been included in my book.

If there is a reminder in this experience, it's one I'm learning and relearning for myself. It would have been so tempting to come out of the blocks, launch my book, go mad on promotion, and run around being busy. Instead, I simply released my book. I'm still sending emails to people I know, even now, some two months later. Hardly the stuff of marketing manuals, but I'm so glad I've done it this way.

Here's a blog I wrote about my experience - games are not systems.

My working theory is this: self-trust. When you trust yourself enough to slow down, let what you are doing speak for itself, you have changed the game.

When someone says, "I'm enjoying reading your book," it's easy to say thank you - can you now write a review? Get all transactional about it.

The alternative is to slow down, say thank you, and notice their experience, not mine. Not easy. Not easy at all, but something I feel is worth doing.

For now, have a great week, and thank you.

P.S. If you work in youth sport, have an MBA, or have an interest in systems thinking you might like this - I've been noodling on the diseconomy of scale in youth sport. I'd love to hear what you think.

P.P.S. A reminder that there are two free coach development events in Feb:

I hope you can join us.
