I've been listening to Robert Pirsig's 1974 lecture on how the book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance came to be written.
I wrote this down:
"It wasn't separate from what I was doing. It arose from it."
The idea is that the book worked once it stopped being a project he was doing on something and became something that came out of how he was living and teaching.
