If you don’t who will?

Folks,

Hang around with writers for long enough, and you will see the temptation to please the editor, the reader, or your parents is real.

I’ve noticed that as I develop copy for my book or a workshop, what changes is my commitment to the idea. What I need to say is emerging—the idea behind the action. Margaret Heffernan once said, “No idea is born fully formed.”

I’ve recently joined a social network called Purple Space, and I have to say it’s been a valuable experience. There are weekly meetings, monthly topics, and a place to input what I am working on for the day.

Do you have somewhere similar where you can go to work out your ideas? I’d love to know. And if it is the pub, that’s perfectly legit, although I’m not sure it’s tax deductible!

Okay, here’s a blog I wrote last week about coaching. Who wants it more? It could easily apply to parenting, relationships, or the people you work with. It’s a hard-won lesson that I still need to revisit from time to time. I don’t know where my urge to fix other people comes from, other than I know it saves me from looking at myself.

Here’s a simple rubric: “If you want it more than the person doing the task, that says more about you than it does about them.”

Lots in the pipeline in the coming weeks that I am excited to share with you. Have a great week.

Simon

P.S. When you are ready, you can book your slot to talk about coaching.
