Light for Life ✨
I took a picture of this paper marigold mandala which was part of an immersive installation. Artist Eiko Nishida invited me to experience this stunning installation of paper marigold mandalas, blending Día de Muertos with Obon—a Japanese tradition celebrated each August to welcome back ancestral spirits. Walking slowly and interacting with others in the circle felt like a quiet call to honor where we come from and how we carry that light forward.
OPTIMISM: 💖
An alleged quote from a fave:
“Aunque la vida sea difícil, siempre hay una razón para sonreír.”
(Even though life is tough, there’s always a reason to smile.)
—supposedly, El Chavo, "El Chavo del Ocho"
COOL FIND: 🕵🏽♂️
🧴🌶️ Chamoy on Your Cheeks? Sí.
Bicultural beauty is having a moment—and Rare Beauty just dropped the mic. Their new collab with @tajinusa brings chile-inspired shades straight to your makeup bag with a Chamoy blush and Clásico gloss that actually look good on all skin tones. 👉🏽 See the full drop on Instagram before it sells out.
HOMEWORK: 📝
Bilingual Storytelling: Create a storytelling night where family members take turns telling stories from their Mexican or American heritage. Encourage kids to participate and pass down family tales! 📚🌟
OTHER STUFF: 📢
One of my favorite taco shops got the spotlight it deserves thanks to one of my favorite creators. In this quick reel, @fernandacortesx breaks down how Tacos El Gordo went from a humble Tijuana taquería to a multi-million dollar empire. Warning: you will crave adobada after watching. 👉🏽 Check out the video on IG.
Until next time, remember: storytelling keeps culture alive, even if it comes with a side of adobada cravings and dramatic telenovela-level makeup drops.
Cuídense y sigan brillando ✨
