Happy October, mi gente! 🍂

Spooky season has arrived—and so has pan de muerto, Pride celebrations, and a little wisdom from Gabo to remind us that age is just a mindset. This week’s edition is packed with cultura, carbs, and community joy. Let’s get into this week's...

PICTURE: 📸

Spooky season is here ... and so is pan de muerto! 💀🌼

I took a picture of this sugarless(?) beauty before diving in. Soft, fragrant, and topped with sesame seeds instead of sugar, it’s a quieter, moodier take on the classic—and the perfect way to welcome the season of remembrance.

Let the ofrendas (and carbs) begin. 🕯️🍞✨

OPTIMISM: 💖

A gentle reminder that staying young at heart is about never giving up on what inspires us.

"It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams."

Gabriel García Márquez (Nobel Prize-winning writer)

COOL FIND: 🕵🏽‍♂️

🌈 Heritage + Pride = Joyful Resistance

Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just about history; it’s about celebrating the cultures, identities, and communities that continue to shape it. That’s why this year’s 5th Annual Latine Pride in San Diego is one to bookmark. Presented by the SD LGBTQ+ Latine Coalition, it’s a vibrant, family-friendly celebration of Queer Latinidad—complete with music, food, community resources, performances, and more.

HOMEWORK: 📝

It's October 3rd!

Take 3 minutes today to confirm your voter registration. Even if you think you’re registered, double-check—life moves fast and addresses change. Future-you will be grateful when Election Day rolls around.

OTHER STUFF: 📢

📰 Are Americans Welcome in Mexico?

This Sunday, keep an eye out for an op-ed by Tania Navarro in The San Diego Union-Tribune — featuring yours truly. 🇲🇽🇺🇸 We talk about the protests in Mexico City, the rise of digital nomads, and how Americans are perceived differently across the country. Spoiler: it’s complicated, but there’s hope (and context) beyond the viral videos.

👉🏽 Full piece in Sunday’s Union-Tribune or click here for your first look.

Flashback Friday: Bonus Tip of the Week

Last year, I reached out to some of my favorite Latino influencers, creators, and community leaders to ask: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? From Chicago, Los Angeles, and SD, their responses were full of orgullo, resistencia, and beautiful reminders that nuestra cultura is worth celebrating every single day. 🎉✊🏽 🌀 It’s a great read to revisit—and still hits hard today.

Thanks for making space for joy, resistance, and reflection this week. Keep dreaming, keep dancing, and don’t forget to double-check your voter registration. Nos vemos soon—and bring snacks. 💀🌼🗳️
