Hello ,
Don’t Do It!
Don't even do it.
Not even the smallest bit.
Don't.
This newsletter is probably the funniest one I've ever done in a long time. 😅
There are moments when we know better—and still do it anyway. This last week, I had one of those moments.
I had an event that I had been planning to attend for weeks. It was my friend’s 40th and about two weeks ago, I already decided what I was going to wear and I was excited.
Then the day before the event I thought, okay, let's try and match the outfits together, match the shoe with the dress and everything all together. And lo and behold, I wore the dress and…
There's something I really like eating, but lately I hadn't been eating it for a while. I'm not going to tell you what it is, but I had gone on an adventure eating just one or two bits of it.
In fact, I lie. I had eaten, let me say, a little more than I should have in the last two weeks.
And every time I ate it, I kept telling myself, it's just one or two. It's not that much. It's not going to make a big difference in my health goals. It's not going to make a big difference in my body. It's just one or two to eating a lot of it...
And guess what?
My planned dress didn't fit anymore.
Now you may say, "Oh yeah, you know what? It's not that." No, trust me. It was a big deal. It's something that I had thought only one or two won't make a difference but it did.
What is my point here? A lot of us have goals or you have things that you're setting for yourself and you tell yourself, "You know what, a little cheat here, a little cheat there, it's not going to make a difference. I will make up for it somehow."
And then, like me, the night before a party that you've been planning for and boom… your outfit doesn't fit.
Know this today - Your goals are not totally upset simply because you had one or two cheat days, or one or two days where you didn't show up.
One thing I'm always advocating for is consistency. Consistency is key in terms of meeting your goals. Consistency and not playing down in the hard times.
What am I saying today?
Don't do it.
Don’t do it for you might mean turning down the snack that derails your progress. It might mean refusing to tell the small white lie at work.
"Don't do it" for you might also mean that there's something that you've set for yourself and you're thinking, "You know what, one day of not showing up is not going to make a difference."
It might mean choosing to showing up on the day you least feel like it.
Let me tell you that you are building strength every day that you show up for yourself.
"Don't do it" might also mean just being the best version of yourself in spite of what you see.
Don't do it.
Don't do it.
Don't do it is everything.
Don't do it.
Don't be that person that shows a lack of self-control, because I think a lack of self-control was really what got me in a bad place this week. I thought to myself, "One or two of this thing, one or two of that thing," several days—and boom, my outfit didn't fit.
Yes, you can say it's all about health, but let me tell you, it shows up in other areas of our lives. And this indeed was the lesson that I learned this week.
I learned to myself that a little bit of this, a little bit of sin here and there— All of a sudden it becomes a habit.
A little bit of "I would just try this, I would just try that"— And all of a sudden, it sticks and it becomes a part of you.
What is the description you want to use for yourself?
What is the person that you want to be described as?
Be the kind of person that doesn't do it.
So here is my funniest newsletter in a long time:
I did it. I compromised. And now I'm paying so hard for it.
Don't compromise.
Don't be inconsistent.
Don't not have self-control.
Be the kind of person that has measurable impact in spite of whether somebody is watching or not.
Be a person of integrity. Don't do it.
Have a fantastic week and make sure you do the right thing.
Take care,
Olamidotun.
P.S.: Feel free to forward this to someone who needs a little reminder and encouragement.
Affirmation for the week
“I have the strength to choose what serves me.
I honor my goals with consistent action.
I build discipline in the smallest decisions.
I rise above temporary desires to
protect my future self.
I lead with integrity, even when no one’s watching.
I am becoming the best version of myself, one choice at a time.”
