Hello ,
Do-do-do-lup…Hello….lol
I spent the last one week with the most amazing children.
Not my children, but over 500 of them at my local church.
Thankfully, I wasn’t alone. I was joined by over 200 incredible volunteers.
But here’s the thing…
It’s not just the fact that I spent the week with children that matters. It’s the most amazing feeling I experienced being part of their lives for a whole week.
Sharing conversations, moments of laughter, and realizing that there is, indeed, so much more to life.
That feeling reminded me of something many of us forget. You see, in the chaos of adulting (because let’s be honest, adulting really does feel like a scam sometimes), we lose touch with the simplest joys of life.
We get older, busier, we chase independence, money, goals. But as we grow, we slowly forget how to laugh and how to find joy in the little things.
They say children are so easy to please, and I learned this truth all over again this week. Life really isn’t that serious. It’s what we make of it. I laughed this week for no reason at all—watching a silly play, hearing jokes that didn’t even make sense—and in those moments, I forgot my own problems.
Here’s what I love most about children - yes, they have hard moments—learning to ride a bike, tackling a new subject—but they don’t take it too hard.
They laugh, they cry, they forgive, they move on, and they try again. It’s no wonder the Bible says, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
I paraphrase it this way: unless you learn to change and see life through the eyes of a child, you’ll miss out on living life to the fullest.
I know we have problems. Life can feel overwhelming. But don’t wear your struggles like a badge on your shoulders. Laugh a little. Jump around for no reason. Take a walk in the park. Swing on a swing.
Just be.
In my local language, we say problems never finish. There will always be something to worry about. But being childlike means being present—laughing, playing, and letting go.
So this week, I’m challenging myself not to leave that beautiful experience behind. I want to carry it with me. Despite the deadlines, tasks, and to-dos, I’m choosing to laugh more, love more, forgive more, and simply be a child again.
My message to you this week is simple:
Change a little.
Let the child in you come alive.
Dance in the rain if you have to.
Laugh out loud.
Don’t let your problems drown your joy—because guess what?
There will always be something to stress about. But laughter? Laughter is a gift.
So what are you changing this week? Where is the child in you?
Enjoy the rain. Let the child in you come alive.
Yes, it’s tough out there. But at the end of the day, remember that you’re still a child of God.
Have a fantastic week.
Even as I laugh at the little child in me, I’ll leave you with a line I heard during the drama this week:
Do-do-do-lup… See you later! Bye-bye!
Warmly,
Olamidotun.
PS : None of the pictures here are from the camp or the actual kids I met. They are just internet pictures.
P.S.: Feel free to forward this to someone who needs a little reminder and encouragement.
Affirmation for the week
“I choose to see life through the eyes of a child
I choose to be curious, joyful, and free.
I allow myself to laugh without reason
and embrace the present moment fully.
Even in the midst of challenges,
I hold space for joy, play, and wonder.
I release the weight of adulting
and make room for lightness in my spirit.
My heart is open to love, forgiveness,
and fresh beginnings every day.
I am a child of God, deeply loved,
and created to live with joy and purpose.”
