Hello ,
Phewww… I’ve had a very longggg weekend.
Such a long weekend that just thinking about it a few days to the weekend, had me wondering how I’m going to go through this weekend.
Two of my daughters’ had three different competitions in three different cities this weekend and it meant I had to juggle work whilst also trying to be present for my children.
As I thought about this weekend, I won’t lie to you, I dreaded it but I said to myself - this will be long hours of driving but you’ll have to do it anyway.
So as I prepared for it, and realised I couldn’t remove myself because I have to be present, I decided to enjoy the moment.
As the weekend progressed, it made me think of how many of us want to achieve so many things in our lives but because of how hard and overwhelming it looks, we put it off, procrastinate or just never start. Just because it looks hard and unbearable.
So today I’m sharing the thought of doing hard things but in simple ways.
I’ve had some hard goals and decisions I’ve had to make. But I’ve learnt that doing things the simple way by starting with the seemingly small things, goes a long way to help achieve my hard goals.
Recently, I have been working on finishing a 31 days book for children. I asked myself how I can achieve this and I’ve decided it will be through the power of showing up and starting with the small things. I’ll begin by doing one confession every day.
I believe I’ll achieve my goal this way and I know you can too. Many of us have hard goals this year we are striving for, and I want you to do it the simple way too. Do it by taking small steps every day.
Never get overwhelmed by the enormity of the goal but choose to take simple baby steps first. Then the goal becomes simple and attainable.
Remember lifting a cup full of water every day is better than thinking of lifting a bucket full of water at once. Lifting a cup every day means you get to take it and over many days, it becomes a bucket.
What I’m encouraging you to do today is that no matter how hard your goal is, start small. Do hard things the simple way.
When I think of the fulfillment I felt knowing I showed up for my family and did the hard thing regardless of the situation, I realise it’s all worth it. When all your goals are achieved, it will not only be about the sacrifices made but also about the joy and fulfilment that you did it.
This week and this year - commit to do hard things the simple ways.
Remember baby steps. Little cups of water daily. And watch those goals shift from baby steps to giant steps.
Always remember I’m cheering for you. Have a fantastic week.
Yours truly,
Olamidotun Votu-Obada
Affirmation for the week
“I’m committed to taking baby steps towards my big goals. I’m committed to showing up everyday not based on how I feel but taking intentional steps to move my goals because one day my baby steps will show up as big steps. I’m committed to it and I’ll do it this week.”
A Movie For You
On the topic of achieving goals, an inspiring movie I watched and I’ll like to recommend to you is Self made. It’s a short series based on the life of the first American female self made millionaire.
