While training last week, I was doing one-handed farmers carries as shown in this picture. I had never done these before, and it got me thinking about strength imbalances...
Your body works as one unit when accomplishing physical tasks.
Being out of balance is never advantageous. It can cause:
Strength differences
Flexibility issues
Overcompensation
Chronic pain
Unnecessary injuries
TEST...TEST...TEST
3 tests to check for imbalances:
Barbell lunge...
One-handed farmers carry...
Standing single arm dumbbell press...
Is your strength equal on both sides? I DOUBT IT! ***
Correct with unilateral exercises:
Any exercise using one arm, one leg, one side of the body
Attack these weaknesses to stop pain and injury before it even begins
