Support in moments that matter

When appearance becomes a support system

Hi ,

A few months passed before I heard from Elena again.

We caught up over a phone call and I could tell that by this point, life had settled into more of a rhythm.

School routines were predictable. Work responsibilities felt more manageable. Shared parenting logistics, while still some glitches now and again, had become less emotionally charged.

Elena's life wasn't easy of course, just more stable really.

And the reason for the call was a specific request. She had an engagement party to attend.

Oh, not her own! But his. It was a family gathering on his side. One of those occasions where extended family would be present. Parents. Siblings. Long-time family friends.

It was definitely an event where first impressions matter, where we really want to put our best foot forward, because it matters so much even if we don't say that aloud.

Elena explained that she’d been seeing him (yes, the same gentleman mentioned last week) for about six months by then. She described things as being steady, considered, not rushed at all.

But she also mentioned it felt like a big step forward and being seen in a new context. Meeting more of his family and included in something personal.

And she wanted to get it right and wanted to purchase the Find Me an Outfit service.

Elena's instructions were clear:

  • Not over the top. Not trying too hard. Not outshine the bride-to-be.
  • Appropriate and comfortable in herself.
  • Still must look elegant and gorgeous.

So I did the groundwork first. Reviewing the occasion, dress code, venue, expectations, and what would work best for the Elena's features, personality preferences and colour palette.

Then Elena and I jumped on a video call to run through some "test" options I'd pulled together.

Her feedback meant I could create her bespoke

Lookbook

with real confidance. A modern silhouette, but not severe. Feminine, confident, delightful.

Clothing, shoes, accessories, jewellery, the entire look for 4 unique outfits.

We landed on an outfit that resoundingly ticked all her boxes. Appropriate for the daytime setting. Flattering to her proportions. Aligned with her colour palette. Gently gorgeous.

Most importantly, when Elena went to try on... it felt right and exactly like her. A clear "yes".

Knowing Elena, it was probably just a simple, quiet nod to her reflection in the mirror.

Later, she sent me a quick message after the event. Short and simple.

She said she felt comfortable the whole night.

That she didn’t spend the evening adjusting her outfit or wondering if she looked out of place.

And that she’d been introduced to people with confidence, without doubting herself.

Those moments matter to our identity more than realise. An outfit or image changes can change how we participate.

Again it was quite a few months before another message came through. This time, the milestone was significant.
