A moment of guilt

Reality bites for the pivot

Hi ,

So picking up from my last email, Elena’s Colour Analysis session was booked for a couple of weeks after her Personal Style consultation.

But just before the appointment, something happened that I see now and again.

She hesitated. She postponed our session.

Not because she didn’t want to do it.

Because she started questioning whether she should.

The past two years had forced her to become very careful with money. A move, new household logistics, adjusting to a modified parent role... all sharpening focus on what feels necessary versus optional.

And when you’re in that mindset, spending money on yourself can feel uncomfortable.

Not irresponsible. Maybe just... hard to justify?

Especially when there are school expenses, household bills, and future plans sitting quietly in the background.

In the end Elena didn’t cancel.

But she did admit later that she had seriously considered it. And that matters more than we realise.

Because Colour Analysis isn’t really about colour in the way people think.

Yes, we identify the colour properties that support your complexion, your hair, your natural value contrast.

But what it really does is remove uncertainty.

  • Standing in front of endless racks of clothing, wondering what will work.
  • Buying something because it looks good in store/online, but never quite feeling right once it’s home (yet not knowing why).
  • Repeating the same safe colours because they feel familiar, even when they don’t do much for you.

That repeated cycle over-and-over quietly draining time and money. Again... and again... and again... Over decades.

When Elena arrived for her session a month later she was calm and thoughtful, as usual. Refined, you could say, but now determined to follow through on the decision she had already made for herself and her alone.

As I gently took Elena through the process, starting with the drapes, the shifts were visible.

Some palettes made her look tired and emphasised undereye shadows. But the right one smoothed her features and gave her skin a luminescent clarity that hadn’t been obvious before.

That’s usually the moment where things start to click. Elena's "eye" was being re-trained and she even started commenting on the differences for herself.

By the end of the session, Elena had her colour palette, her neutrals, her signature colours, why it worked, etc.

But more importantly, she had the right filter.

Something practical she could use every time she opened her wardrobe.

Elena's feedback later confirmed she was saving so much more than her consultation investment.

She was genuinely getting fantastic outcomes when selecting, wearing and shopping for clothes.

Then few weeks later, she booked another session!

But this time, it wasn’t actually for herself.
