Release emotions and renew your inner peace

Become mindful and allow your emotions to flow

Hi ,

Do you ever feel that something inside you is getting in the way of your inner peace?

We often notice what's external to us that is invoking our inner conflict and yet we can do a lot for our inner peace practise by being more aware of our inner state of being.

Our society places great importance on intellect and figuring it out.

What if we really knew our own state of being and our emotional state, in the moment as we experience it?

We often cannot/don't identify how we are emotionally - unless quite overwhelmed - so today's missive is about tracking and knowing our emotions and just feeling them.

By allowing them to flow we can more easily maintain the connection to our own inner peace.

It is the lack of acknowledgement and recognition of the feelings that cause inner conflict - it we don't know them and don't feel them - most likely they are getting back up in our inner world.

It is the 'back-up' that often invokes our lack of inner conflict and results in a lack of inner peace.

So what to do? Let pay more attention to our emotional state - happy or sad, joyful or grief. Lets attend to our emotions and let them flow.

If you feel angry - set aside a few minutes - journal your anger out of your system - scream into a pillow (if you don't have the privacy to just let it out vocally - that's the best:) the most complete)

If you are sad take some time to sit with your tears, or watch a sad movie to help release the emotion and let the tears flow.

Just let if flow through you and out!

A note here... especially with highly charged negative emotions - we do not have access to our rationale brain anyways. With these emotions we are hard wired to use our primal brain for safety - which is why we can say/do things we later regret. If we can let the emotions flow in a safe way, in a safe space we will be much more able to effectively tackle the issue that is involving our anger!

If you have a well of emotions backed-up inside, it is so hard to be present for those you love and your own life.

There are certainly deeper layers of emotions that can be residing in the body that therapy of many sorts or even a good listening. non-judgemental friend can help us with and attend to.

And then there is the day to day ups and downs - let the emotions flow - in a safe place, in a safe way - you'll know what that is for you.

Just don't stuff them down and think they will go away just because you are choosing not to attend to them. That is how we can create some long lasting inner conflict and longer term challenges for our inner peace.

On a daily basis it is our responsibility to attend to what we feel.

Let it move through us - yes it's a practise - and the more we allow our feelings and let the emotions flow, the more steady we can be in life.

Yes the more steady we feel, we know that there is likely more inner peace we are experiencing :)

There is also great news about attending to our emotions!! By becoming more aware of our emotions we can become more clear about our own truths and what is best for us - and when we align with our inner being that truth - this alignment is the foundation for inner peace to flourish.

This is a practise and a process to recognize, allow and make space for our emotions - much patience is often required as our society has become 'head strong' and feelings are not greatly valued, yet these emotions are the foundation to our every day experience and enjoyment of life.

This is a topic I am passionate about and I hope it gives food for thought.

How are you feeling right now:)?

So many ways to cultivate our inner peace:) May it be of benefit.

Desiderata

This is the original text from the book where Desiderata was first published.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
