APOLOGY & UPDATE

Dear Assembly Members,

Today, during my morning meditation, God told me I needed to apologize for my section of the letter I sent out in the past few days. I was being judgmental & doing exactly what I was accusing others of doing: being a victim. 

So to all The North Carolina Assembly members & particularly: Tess Walsh, Becky Rivenbark,  Dan Diescher, Lavelle Gathings, Rohit Bali, Anthony Hill, Thomas Rivenbark, & Niti Bali :

UPDATE

I also wanted to give you an update on Neva’s situation since it was different than I had originally thought/wrote.

In Neva’s own words:

"... I lost my home and even though I initially thought it was permanent, it turns out not to be. I lost my rugs and floor pillows but my books were high enough not to be damaged and I got small stuff either out or into the attic accessed by ladder. Supplies have been in abundance in Black Mountain, so paper towels, TP, etc are not an issue. I lost the beauty of my surroundings, so restoring that both in terms of health and environment as well as beauty is a priority.

Things I need are:

Large covered buckets for collecting water to filter for washing,

Essential oils for cleaning & purifying, as well as the aromatherapy effect.

A pitch fork.

Mushroom compost & organic seeds.

Hemp seeds for toxin removal (wow! I didn't know they did that!!!).

Solar generator

Flashlights

Propane

Gas containers with gas.

Down blankets (single or double) .

Small dish towels

single bed, cotton blend sheet sets

single mattress pad   

Area rugs (whites and pastel colors).

The only furniture I lost was a wardrobe, which I need to replace but is not urgent.

I don't want people to think that I am among those unfortunates that lost everything they own and there are many. My environment is a ruin and I have been homeless for a month. It will be years before the balance is restored to my neighborhood. It is traumatic to endure, but I am still one of the very lucky ones and luckiest for sure to have friends like you.

I thank Neva for being such a source of wisdom & courage for the rest of us. When Tony & I experienced our house fire in 2012, I was especially challenged to accept help. I was in a state of trauma & I didn't make sense. Neva is strong enough to accept our help by asking for what she needs - which is an example of true strength.

Tony & I did drive over to Neva’s on Saturday (we looked like the Clampetts with a wheelbarrow strapped to the top of the jeep). 

Seeing the area first-hand is un-nerving & indescribable. The “downtown” area has some shops open & some restaurants open but right next door the businesses are closed. 

There are places that "look normal". For instance, Tony & I were talking to Neva when Tony noticed what appeared to be a new foundation & asked Neva if someone had started to build a house. She pointed to a house about 100 feet away & said, “That house used to be on that foundation.” It freaked us out! And then we started noticing the structures in the area, some of which, when we took a 2^nd look, were askew! Like a said, a real mind trip.

And think about this: when our water goes out, it is usually just for a few hours. But Neva & the people in WNC have been without water for over a month now. The water is so contaminated, they can only use it to flush the toilets....think on that for a minute....showers, cooking, cleaning, bathing, drinking,,,,,

It is challenging, no matter what way you look at it.

Tony & I are going back to Neva's to wash mud & clean debris from her interior walls/areas.

If you can help with the cleaning, please bring clean, filtered water (remember the available water [contaminated] is for flushing toilets only) shovels; pitchforks; buckets; cleaning towels; paper towels; gloves; scrub brushes; BIG, contractor style, trash bags; & brooms.

If you can assist personally, please bring your own water/drinks, masks (lots of dust), your food (lunch & snacks) & chairs.
