My year without Amazon: How it’s going at the halfway point
Many of you know I've challenged myself to completely avoid Amazon in 2021. I'm now six months in, and it's going surprisingly well.
Find out just how much money I've spent there, whether using alternatives has cost or saved me money and other reflections.
Ask Andy #18: Your money questions answered
This week's questions answered include:
- How long does it take to receive cashback?
- How much do I need in emergency funds?
- Will I get charged for using my overdraft?
You'll also be able to watch last week's live Q&A in full.

Cash Hack: Get NOW TV Boost for £1 a month
In a week NOW is changing prices for a number of passes, which could make it cheaper for you (if you currently pay full price).
But the streaming service is also adding adverts and stopping sharing of your account if you don't sign up for the "Boost" membership, which comes in at £5 a month.
However, in this video I show you a way you might be able to knock this down to just £1 a month for the rest of the year.
Want to read rather than watch? Here's an article with the same information.
CASH CHATS PODCAST
Two episodes for you again this week, but for the rest of the summer it'll be down to just one episode each Tuesday.
Friday's news review episodes will be back in September if not before.
#208: How to keep saving once lockdown ends
Now we know most of the last remaining restrictions will lift on 19 July, it'll likely mean the return of some old expenses - which could make it harder for you to keep saving.
So in this ep of the pod, I've shared some of the things you can do to make sure you do keep putting money away every single month.
#207: Your Money, This Week
Martha from the SquanderLust pod helps me look back at the top money news stories from the week, including:
- Changes to furlough and Stamp Duty holidays
- Brits back to borrowing
- New debt help rules
- Amazon & Google fake reviews
- Plain numbers on bills
- & more
You can listen via all the normal podcasting routes or over on the blog.
NEXT LIVE Q&A: Tuesday 20 July 7pm
There's no live Q&A next week. The next one (on Instagram, Facebook and my YouTube channel) will be in just under two weeks - and this time on a Tuesday! Put a reminder in your diary now!
THIS WEEK'S TOP DEALS
I only share deals and special offers on the blog which I think are really good value. Click the titles or links for more information.
1. Halifax: £100 switch bonus
I've just seen that Halifax has brought back a £100 switching bonus - though this time it's different from previous offers.
To get it you need to open up a new Halifax Ultimate Reward current account, which costs £17 a month (and comes with a load of insurances).
That might put some of you off, but I was able to downgrade my account to a standard free account as soon as I got my bonus in a similar offer - and didn't even get charged the first £17!
If you currently have a Halifax Reward account you can probably nab this deal, and I'll look into this more on Thursday to see if there's a way for existing Ultimate Reward account customers to also get it.
Check here for details and updates.
2. Gousto & Hello Fresh: More than 90% off your first boxes
If you've not used either Gousto or Hello Fresh recipe boxes then a combination of deals makes this a great time to try.
Stacking a first-box promo code worth 50% to 60% off with cashback between £12 and £16 means it'll cost you £6.60 to get 22 meals! That's 30p per portion.
And there are ways to stack extra savings on top! Here's how.
3. Asda: Up to £15 bonus to spend
Regular Asda shoppers should check out the "School Shop" savings card - even if you don't have any kids.
Much like the Christmas Savings card you can get a bonus of between £1 and £15 added to your card to spend in store on anything you like. The size of the bonus depends on how much is on the card. Here's more, including the deadline you have to make.
4. Spotify / Tidal: Three months free
It's your last chance to pick up three months free Spotify Premium (if you've not had it before), while there's also a new Tidal trial for the same length. Here's more.
5. Amazon: £10 off £25 spend
Some Amazon customers will be able to get this offer on Amazon goods, or an alternative one offering £10 credit if you make a Mastercard your default payment.
Of course, this is only a deal if there's already something you plan to buy from Amazon! Here's more.
6. Black Widow: The best cinema ticket deals
After a delay that's been as long as the pandemic, Marvel's Black Widow is finally in cinemas.
You can currently save money on tickets every day of the week, depending on the cinema, and you can find a chain-by-chain guide to special offers and discounts here.
