Your weekly money saving deals and news from money expert Andy Webb
My top articles this week
1. How to make the most from Amex Shop Small 2019
One of my favourite ways to save money is back. The American Express Shop Small offer starts on Saturday and runs for two weeks. Simply shop at participating small businesses and pay with an Amex credit card and you'll get £5 back if you spend at least £10. Here's how I make the most of the offer each year, and how there should still be time to get a card if you don't have one.
2. What an overdraft really costs you
HSBC has announced that from March all overdrafts will be a flat 39.9% - doubling the current rate. This follows Nationwide's similar increase last month and will all banks having to adjust how their overdrafts work by April next year it could just be the start. So if you ever use an overdraft you need to read this article which explains the real cost and shares some cheaper ways to borrow money.
3. #FoodBankAdvent 2019 – Time to donate your collections
If you've been collecting items during November to donate to a foodbank as part of the #FoodBankAdvent campaign, or just want to give something at Christmas to combat food poverty then now is the time to hand everything over. Here's why you shouldn't wait to donate, plus some tips on what you can give.
4. Christmas gifts – Is it the thought that counts?
In my latest Cash Chats podcast I'm looking at gift giving, including the rules for regifting, why I hate Secret Santa and some ideas for gifts you can give where the thought actually does count. You can listen to this week's episode on the blog here: Cash Chats #102
