Grimoire Anthology w/ Robin Hobb

My friends!

Hard to believe that it has been five months already since the last newsletter. A lot has been happening since then!

Outside of writing, I have been knee-deep in kids sports, coaching my son's soccer team and helping with baseball (his all-star team won every tournament they played at!). I also had a quick trip to London for my day job where I snuck in some time to attend my friend Andrea Stewart's panel at Waterstones (she has a new book out, you should check it out!) and have dinner with another indie author (the greek god, Gregory Kontaxis).

The biggest trip though was heading to central Washington with these nerds.

We rented a cabin in the middle of the woods from Wed-Sun and it was amazing. I wrote nearly 15,000 words. We jumped in the lake, played spikeball, and nerded out on indie publishing non-stop. It was amazing. If you haven't read their books yet, I highly recommend. A few quick links to make it easy for you!

For my own writing, I'm happy to say that the writing retreat really helped break me out of my slump on the new epic fantasy series. I have a complete outline for the book that I'm finally happy with. This is going to be a much more exciting first entry than Voice of War, and I think you all are going to love it.

In the meantime, I have short stories popping up all over the place! The Advent of Winter is now available on Amazon, now that all of the beautiful kickstarter books have been fulfilled. I still love my little dark fairytale story that's included in that one.

I am also excited to share that I have stories being included in two upcoming anthologies. If you follow me on social media, you may have seen this photo on my Instagram for an anthology called Unavowed by Grim Oak Press.

This is an epic collection of some of the most successful indie fantasy authors around, including: Michael J Sullivan, M L Wang, Jeff Wheeler, Michael R Miller, Ryan Cahill, and many more! In total, I believe there are 22 contributing authors. Grim Oak Press goes all out with their books, so you won't want to miss this. My story is a feudal Japan-inspired standalone called The Last Ride of Kanashimi.

In December, I will be attending Dragonsteel, Brandon Sanderson's convention, for the second time, but this time I'll be selling books for one of the days. Lots of other amazing authors will be there, which gave Grim Oak Press another great idea: an anthology with some of the attending authors, so you can find them and get the books signed in person. Conveniently, I live only 30 minutes away from the Grim Oak warehouse, so I'll be able to sign all ordered copies, not just the Dragonsteel ones.

Say hello to Grimoire, Tales from Dragonsteel Nexus 2024

It is such a surreal feeling to have my name on these two anthologies next to authors that I was reading ten years ago. My story in Grimoire will be Five Silver Rings, which some of you have already read. I love it, and I think the folks at Dragonsteel will to. Glad it found a worthy home.

That's all for now. You all continue to inspire me and uplift me. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful fantasy community. If you ever want to say hey or have a question, I'm forever yours.

May you find harmony in your soul,

—Zack Argyle
