This Thursday! - the White Party 2022

Think:

Eikev is a peculiar word. As it used in this week's opening verse, it means “because.” Because  you will listen to G-d's commandments, G-d will bless you and so on.

But the word also means “heel.”

What's that about?

The Rebbe said: Our commitment to Torah should permeate us entirely, so that even our heel—the lowest and the least sensitive part of the person—“listens to these laws, observes them and does them.”

In other words, our relationship with G‑d should not be confined to the holy days or hours of the year, but should also embrace our everyday activities.

Indeed, this “lowly” and “spiritually insensitive” part of our life is the foundation of our relationship with G‑d, in the same way that the heel is the base upon which the entire body stands and moves.

Shabbat Shalom!

💪 In this week's Torah reading, Moses cautions the Jewish people to never assume that “it was the strength of my own hand that brought me success.” But rather, we owe our success to G-d. This raises the question of meritocracy in the Jewish tradition. Here, Harvard philosopher Michael Sandel and NYT columnist Bret Stephens engage in a discussion about the topic
