No Value At All

This week’s market crash, triggered by Japan’s unexpected interest rate hike, sent shockwaves across the financial world. For years, investors had borrowed cheaply from Japan to fuel global investments. But when Japan raised its rates, the foundation of this strategy crumbled, forcing investors to sell off assets and leading to a dramatic drop in the market.

This week exposed the challenge of evaluating the worth of assets. It showed how value can sometimes be based on nothing more than groupthink. The market dropped, the market rebounded, nothing really happened.

The world we live in is a shell of nothingness. Here today, gone tomorrow. Decaying, dissipating, entropy.

One day we will see how the underlying energy, the G-dly power binding the nanoparticles is the true Existence, the real Value.

In Judaism, we speak of exile not just as a physical displacement, but as a spiritual disconnection—a drift from our true essence. This week's market crash is a reminder to reassess our priorities. Are we chasing after the superficial, or are we rooted in what’s real and lasting?

Have you grounded yourself in the eternal values of Torah and Mitzvot, or have you been distracted by the ephemeral? The choice is ours.

Wishing you an uplifting Shabbat,

Rabbi Mendy & Mussy
