Israel - what we can do

There are no words. There is a lot of emotion.

We are all absolutely shocked and horrified by the cruel attacks on Israel. We pray for all those who have been hurt, killed, or kidnapped and for the safety and success of the IDF and our brothers and sisters in the holy land of Israel.

In this critical time, we ask:

What can we do for Israel? How can I help my brothers and sisters in the Holy Land?

There are 2 types of action that intertwine with each other: spiritual and physical.

Obviously, Israel’s government, army, and police are striving to do all in their power to protect the nation’s citizens.

The Torah teaches us (and history has repeatedly demonstrated to us) that the physical protection of each one of us is intrinsically connected to our spiritual activism.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Israel has been attacked. This was the worst day since the Holocaust.

We have gathered some of the directives that the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, gave during times of crisis in Israel; actions we can each take for Israel and its people.

When we pray or do a good deed in the merit of Israel, we create a spiritual defense and a boost, for them and for us.

Join us at 6:00 PM TODAY for a gathering and community prayer - RSVP required

  • Stop doom-scrolling

  • Pray: all prayer is good, Psalms are best

While praying, keep in mind those who are held hostage, the injured, and all of Israel. Click HERE for some Psalms.

  • Give Tzedakah:

The protective strength of charity is particularly strong.

Chabad's Terror Victims Project and Colel Chabad are two of the many worthy organizations supporting those in Israel affected by terror.

There will be many links and opportunities posted over the next days. Give to them all.

  • Mezuzah:

Buy a mezuzah for any doorways that don't have one already, check the ones you already have.

Called the “guard” of the Jewish home and the guardian of the Jewish people throughout the ages, the mezuzah is a parchment scroll containing sacred portions of the Torah that is hung on the right side of every doorpost in a Jewish home.

If you don’t have mezuzahs, or are missing on some doors, reply to this email and we'll help you get them up.

  • Light Shabbat candles:

Join millions of Jewish women and girls around the globe lighting Shabbat candles every Friday before Shabbat and on the eve of Jewish holidays. While this is a once-a-week mitzvah, its power lasts for an entire seven days.

Learn how to light Shabbat candles, find out what time the candles should be lit, read stories and discover the power of bringing more light into the world.

  • Tefillin: "Arms for Israel"

Before the outbreak of the 1967 six-day-war, the Rebbe prompted a literal “call to arms” to encourage Jewish men to don tefillin, whose spiritual potency is foretold in the Talmud to help instill fear and deterrence in the enemy.

Want to learn how to put on tefillin? Check out this tutorial. Don't have tefillin? Reply to this email to schedule a time to stop by YJP to come put on tefillin and say a prayer for Israel.

Again: Today at 6:00 pm at the JCC - Gathering and Prayer
