The Chai Times // Kabbalah of an Earthquake
Apr 05, 2024 5:25 pm
Think:
The ground. Another one of those things we take for granted.
When we explore a city, we're enamored by its buildings, architecture, locals, food, and culture. We never return from vacation with a photo album full of ground shots.
Yet, the ground is the very foundation on which everything stands.
Sometimes it takes an earthquake to remind us of the need for a solid footing.
Similarly, in our spiritual journey, we can spend our lives constructing beautiful and intricate structures - a sanctuary for love of G‑d, a palace for compassion towards all creation, a castle for various virtuous values, and an intellectual fortress built on our understanding of G‑d's ways.
But beneath these structures lies the unassuming ground, representing our simple faith in G‑d and our steadfast commitment to following His guidance.
These foundational qualities may not seem flashy or sophisticated, they're accessible to scholar or layperson alike.
But only when the ground is stable and faultless can all the buildings above it be safe and secure.
Stay grounded.
Wishing you an uplifting Shabbat and a boundary breaking Purim,
Rabbi Mendy & Mussy
