The Chai Times #30 // Happy 120!
Apr 08, 2022 10:57 pm
This Tuesday America will commemorate a birthday. Yes, the Rebbe's 120th.
And America will do so by celebrating Education & Sharing Day USA.
Established in 1978 by a joint Congressional resolution, Education Day USA focuses on the very foundation of meaningful education: instructing our youth in the ways of morality and ethics, and teaching them an appreciation for divine inviolable values.
Since President Jimmy Carter, each presiding president designates this special day on the anniversary of the birth of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who dedicated his life to the cause of education.
The proclamation acknowledges his efforts for education and sharing for Jews and non-Jews alike through the many centers of education he established. He encouraged both private and public schools to incorporate good educational morals and values based on belief in G-d.
On the first "Education Day USA," April 18, 1978, the Rebbe shared, “Education, in general, should not be limited to the acquisition of knowledge and preparation for a career, or, in common parlance, “to make a better living.” And we must think in terms of a ”better living” not only for the individual, but also for the society as a whole. The educational system must, therefore, pay more attention, indeed the main attention, to the building of character, with emphasis on moral and ethical values.”
Let us use the inspiration of this day to incorporate the values of education and sharing into our own lives and careers and usher in a peaceful era for all of humanity with the coming of the Redemption.
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom, have an uplifting week! Looking forward to celebrating together!

Sell that Chametz: Not only do we not eat chometz - leavened food - on Passover but we don't even own it. Instead of throwing it all out you can hide it away in your cupboard and sell it to a non-Jew for the duration of the holiday.

Jewish word of the week: shmurah matzah (n)
means watched matzah - the wheat is watched from the moment it is cut, through milling, into the bakery and all the way out of the oven. Its the best kind of matzah, the kind that makes your mind experience spiritual delight whilst chewing physically
