Ladies and gentlemen, I want to talk to you today about the spies. In the Torah, the spies are sent into the Promised Land to see if it is a good place for the Israelites to live. But when they come back, they report that the land is full of giants and that they will be unable to defeat them. As a result, the Israelites are not allowed to enter the Promised Land and are forced to wander in the desert for 40 years.
Why did the spies give such a negative report? The answer, I believe, is that they were afraid. They were afraid of the unknown and they were afraid of change. They were comfortable with the way things were and they didn’t want to leave their comfort zone.
The same is true of many people today. We are afraid of change. We are afraid of the unknown. We don’t want to leave our comfort zone. But change is often necessary in order to grow and progress. Sometimes we need to take risks in order to achieve our goals.
The spies could have had a different attitude. They could have been excited about the prospect of exploring a new land. They could have been curious about the giants instead of being afraid of them. They could have been willing to take a risk and see what the Promised Land had to offer.
Ladies and gentlemen, I urge you to be like the spies who had a positive attitude. Be curious about the world around you. Be willing to take risks. And most importantly, don’t be afraid of change. Thank you.

Jewish saying of the week:
"Worry and stress in one's heart, yash'chena."
Our sages offer two interpretations of that last word:
"Remove it from the mind"
(Reading yasichena, from the expression yasiach da'at forget/turn one's mind away.)
or
"discuss it with others." (Reading yesichena, talk/discuss.)
