Happy Friday everyone! I sure hope you are enjoying the fruits of your labors this Labor Day weekend.

This might be your first email from us, there was a problem with our email provider. This is a weekly email that comes out every Friday morning (yes morning, stop that) with a roundup of all the upcoming events, a thought and some interesting Jewish and Austin related links. If you want to get bombarded with memes and event reminders more often, go follow our Instagram.

We sign each of these intros with an invitation to meet for coffee or drinks. That invitation is real. In fact it is so real that 2 years ago someone responded to an email, joined us for a small Shabbat dinner and is now married to the man that sat across the table from her that evening.

Will that happen for you? No promises. But you never know...

Thought:

What is the purpose of the High Holidays?

To capture lightning.

The High Holidays are a month-long energy boost that gives us the full vibes of every emotion we need to level up our Jewish game over the next year.

Rosh Hashana - the power to follow Jewish Tradition

Yom Kippur - ability to repair (relationship, self-image) and restart

Sukkot - feeling whole (with self) and connecting with others, finding common ground

Simchat Torah - feeling the Joy of being Jewish and Alive

We feel each of these feelings on the Holiday with intensity and then call back to tap into that feeling as needed over the next 12 months.

A few important notes:

  • Most of the High Holidays are on Shabbos (Saturday) and Sunday. This means the only workday you need to take off would be Monday, September 25 for Yom Kippur day.
  • ACL Weekend 1 is the weekend of Shmini Atzeret and Simchat Torah - WHO CARES? the real party will be at Chabad, everyone knows that.
  • I will send this in a separate email as well but if you want a Lulav and Etrog let me know. They are usually between $80-90.

Wishing you an uplifting Shabbat,

Rabbi Mendy & Mussy

p.s. As always, we would love to chat with you over coffee or drinks, about Judaism, or just life - reply to this email.
