A reflection on the meaning of the episode at the end of this week's Torah portion which retells the Binding and almost-Sacrifice of Issac. And connecting it to the current situation in Israel:

This is the challenge of a life in the service of God:

To live a Godly life with the same passion with which the martyr embraces death. To cultivate a commitment so absolute that one is literally prepared to lay down one's life for it, and then apply the full brunt of that commitment not toward the annihilation of life, but to its development and perfection.
