Yep, tonight's a Major Jewish Holiday
May 16, 2021 5:01 pm
Dear ,
Tonight begins the Second Major Holiday on the Jewish Calendar. Called Shavuot (Weeks) it celebrates the day G-d spoke to our nation at Mt. Sinai in the first and only mass revelation experience in which the Devine Being communicated with a crowd of people.
It also marked the first stage of the Harvest in Israel and as such was a time to thank G-d for the bounty and blessing reaped from the fields. You can read more about Shavuot here.
It is unfortunate that Shavuot is one of the lesser-known Jewish holidays, probably a combination of its shortness, only 2 days compared to 8 days of Chanukah and Passover, or the two weeks of High holidays, and the fact that it usually falls at the tail end of the school year.
According to Chassidic thought, the days of Shavuot are an energetic reenaction of the Giving of the Torah, meaning we actually re-receive the Torah in a v.3,333 update with higher and more powerful energy.
This is particularly meaningful in this painful time with the events in the Holy Land. It isn't any easier with all the mob pressure and misinformation being spread all over social media.
Now is the time to come together as a community and strengthen each other with Torah and ahavat yisrael.
Do: Say a prayer for Israel, watch this documentary about the roots of Tefillin campaign, and give tzedakah.
Join us for the Shavuot celebration, it will be wonderful and uplifting. Monday afternoon. Details below.
