The Chai Times #55 // We are moving

We are moving!
created with, you guessed it, dall•e
We are excited to announce that Chabad YJP and the Levertov family are moving locations!
From 2605 Friar Tuck to 1700 Dexter St.
This is a big step in the growth of the YJP Community, the new location will have indoor space for First Fridays, Shabbat Shul services, and the many exciting events we have planned for the upcoming year.
This would not be possible without the generosity and vision of Janet & JP Newman. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for everything they have done, and continue to do, for our community.
I was reading a thought on this week's Torah portion and it struck me how closely it resonates with this transition.
In this Torah portion, after the storm had quieted and the rain evaporated, “G‑d spoke to Noah, saying: “Go out of the ark . . .” (8:16)
Why does Noah need to be told to leave? When the rain stopped he should have left!
G‑d commands us to “enter into the ark,” into the sanctums of spirituality we are to create in the material world. But it can get cozy in there. Why leave the warmth and the shelter back into a world that can collapse at any moment?
And coziness is not just spiritual coziness, but physical, conventional, in the play-it-safe zone. Like a small house with a sweet backyard that fills up for First Fridays.
So G-d issues another command. Get out of the ark. Risk. Carry forth and bring its sanctity to the ends of the earth.
We are leaving our small coziness and pushing bigger and greater. Its a change, it’s a big step, and it has its added risks. But we must. This is how we reach every Jew, this is how we bring the high energy Judaism, this is how we fulfill the Rebbe's vision to bring Moshiach.

Look out for the official housewarming, or just come to the First First-ish Friday on November 11th.
Wishing you an uplifting Shabbat!
