Memorable days travelling

Have you ever had one of those magical travel days that never goes away and always seemed to dominate your thoughts when considering travel, holidays or vacations?

As a family, we had one such day in January 2017 in Kotor, Montenegro. We went through the Balkans to Dubrovnik, Mostar, Kotor, and Belgrade. We had three short but magical days in Kotor (I have been dying to return ever since), with the main goal of climbing to the top of Kotor Fortress.

Anyone who knows us knows we are more overweight than underweight, we are more cable car than a hiking trail, and we are more looking up at it than looking down from it, if you get my drift. Climbing the 1350 steps to Kotor Fortress was a mission we will never forget.

In the end, we all made it to the top. The return trip up and back on a path built by the Venetians 700 years ago took around 4.5 hours. It was a real team effort, and we all had to have each other's backs and celebrate every step upwards we made.

The view from the top is burned into my memory. Stunning, beautiful, and mesmerizing are just some of the words to describe it. If you want to read more, we have an article on the day we climbed Kotor Fortress.
