Hi !

Thanks again for joining the readership of my newsletter. I'm blown away that over 50 people signed up the first day I posted about it. I appreciate you being one of them.

"The future is no more uncertain than the present" - Walt Whitman

As I raise three incredible daughters, I'm constantly torn about my view of their futures. Will global military conflict, climate change, political extremism and global supply issues destroy their opportunity to live life the same way that I had the opportunity to grow up? Or will technological advances help to solve these problems through increased communication, mutual understanding, and resource creation?

These are all the areas I hope to discuss in this newsletter.

The Rise of AI

What can AI do now?

Need to write some content for an article, AI can do that.

Need to take that content and turn it into a video, AI can do that.

Need a persona to read your writing, AI can do that.

Need that persona to have a real-sounding voice, AI can do that.

In fact, I can take this entire newsletter and turn it into a video of a person reading it in less than an hour. Don't believe me, check this out.

AI writing software like Jasper.ai can take your writing prompts and create an entire article that you would have a difficult time telling whether it was written by humans or a computer.

AI is already being used in a number of different ways, both in our personal lives and in the workplace. Here are just a few examples:

In our personal lives:

1. Games: AI is increasingly being used in games to create more realistic and believable characters. For instance, the game Skyrim uses AI to create NPCs (non-player characters) that react realistically to the player’s choices and actions.

2. Virtual assistants: AI is also being used to create virtual assistants, like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. These assistants are getting better and better at understanding natural language and responding in a way that is helpful to the user.

3. Predictive analytics: AI is being used more and more to help us make better decisions by providing us with predictive analytics. For example, Google Now uses AI to give you information about your day before you even ask for it, based on your current location, the time of day, and your past search history.

In the workplace:

1. Recruitment: AI is being used to help with the recruitment process by screening resumes and identifying candidates for interviews.

2. Marketing: AI is being used to create targeted marketing campaigns by analyzing customer data and behaviour.

3. Sales: AI is being used to help salespeople by providing them with data-driven insights about their customers.

4. Customer service: AI is being used to provide better customer service by routing customer queries to the right agent and providing helpful information.

5. Cybersecurity: AI is being used to help protect against cybersecurity threats by identifying patterns in data that might indicate an attack.

So, what does the future hold for AI?

There is no doubt that AI is going to become increasingly important in our lives, both in our personal lives and in the workplace. It is already having a major impact in a number of different areas, and this is only going to continue as AI technology advances.

So, what does that mean for us?

It means that we need to start preparing for a future in which AI plays a major role. We need to ensure that we are skilled in using AI tools and that we are comfortable with AI making decisions on our behalf.

We also need to think about the ethical implications of AI and how we can ensure that AI is used responsibly and for the benefit of humanity as a whole.

Now ask yourself, did Warren write that, or did a computer? Hard to tell isn't it. The content above was written using AI software called Creaitor.

It's not just writing that is being impacted. AI can now be used to create images that have never existed before.

The image above was created by an AI software from the company Midjourney. It is amazing! But the implications of this are what really astounds me.

From a business perspective, I can create all of my own unique visuals by just providing a series of text prompts that describe what I want. I don't need to pay for stock images or have an illustrator spend tens of hours drawing and rendering the idea that is in my head. This saves everyone a lot of time but potentially puts a lot of people out of business.

What will AI do in the future?

Health Care

The deployment of AI in healthcare is still in its early developmental stages. However, there are already a number of potential applications that have been proposed and piloted by healthcare organizations. In the future, AI will likely play an even larger role in healthcare as the technology matures and becomes more widely adopted. Here are some potential applications of AI in healthcare that we may see in the future:

1. Automated diagnosis and treatment recommendations

One of the most promising applications of AI in healthcare is its potential to automate the diagnosis of diseases and the recommendation of treatment options.

Currently, diagnosis and treatment recommendations are made by human doctors and other healthcare professionals. However, these recommendations are often based on guidelines that are not always up-to-date or accurate.

AI-based systems, on the other hand, have the potential to be more accurate and up-to-date. They can be constantly learning from new data sources and making more accurate recommendations.

2. Personalized medicine

Another potential application of AI in healthcare is personalized medicine.

Currently, most treatments are designed for the average patient. However, this approach doesn’t work for everyone. Some people respond better to certain treatments than others.

AI could be used to develop treatments that are personalized to each individual patient. This would involve using data from a patient’s medical history, genetics, and lifestyle to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to them.

3. Improved drug development

The development of new drugs is a long and complex process. It often takes many years and billions of dollars to develop a new drug and bring it to market.

AI could potentially be used to speed up this process. AI-based systems could be used to screen for new drug candidates and to identify which ones are most likely to be successful.

4. Automated administrative tasks

There are many administrative tasks in healthcare that are currently performed by human beings. These tasks include things like scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, and billing patients.

AI could be used to automate many of these tasks. This would free up humans to perform more important tasks and improve efficiency in the healthcare system.

5. Improved patient care

AI can also be used to improve the quality of patient care.

For example, AI-based systems could be used to monitor patients’ vital signs and to detect early signs of disease. AI could also be used to provide reminders to patients about taking their medications or to schedule follow-up appointments.

These are just a few of the potential applications of AI in healthcare. As the technology develops, we are likely to see even more uses for AI in the healthcare sector.

Transportation

We are on the cusp of a new transportation revolution. In the past few years, we've seen major advances in AI and its potential to change the way we move around. From self-driving cars to delivery drones, AI is already starting to transform the way we get from A to B.

And this is just the beginning. In the future, AI will become even more advanced and integrated into our transportation systems.

1. Self-driving cars will become the norm

Self-driving cars are no longer a thing of the future. They're already here, and they're only going to become more common in the years to come.

AI-powered self-driving cars have the potential to transform the way we travel. They could make our roads safer, reduce traffic congestion, and make it easier for people with disabilities to get around.

2. Delivery drones will take to the skies

One of the most exciting applications of AI in transportation is delivery drones. These autonomous flying machines are already being used by companies like Amazon and Google to deliver goods to customers.

In the future, delivery drones will become even more ubiquitous. They'll be used to deliver everything from food to medicine to packages.

3. Traffic will be controlled by AI

One of the biggest problems with transportation today is traffic congestion. But in the future, AI will be used to help solve this problem.

AI-powered traffic management systems will be able to optimize traffic flow, reducing congestion and making our roads more efficient.

4. Public transport will be smarter

Public transport is already getting a makeover courtesy of AI. In the future, buses and trains will be equipped with AI-powered systems that can predict demand and optimize routes.

This will make public transport more efficient and convenient, making it a more attractive option for people who currently drive.

5. AI will make flying safer

Flying is already one of the safest forms of transportation. But in the future, AI will make it even safer.

AI will be used to monitor aircraft, identify potential hazards, and even take over flying the plane in an emergency.

Finance

This is a question that I get asked a lot. And it's one that's difficult to answer, because the potential applications of AI in banking are virtually limitless.

That said, there are a few areas where I think AI will have a particularly transformative impact in the banking sector. Here are a few examples:

1. Enhancing customer service

One of the most exciting potential applications of AI in banking is in the area of customer service. Banks are already using AI-powered chatbots to handle customer queries, and the results are very promising.

In the future, AI-powered chatbots will become even more sophisticated and will be able to handle more complex queries. They will also be able to provide more personalized service, by offering recommendations that are tailored to the individual customer's needs.

2. Improving fraud detection

Fraud is a big problem for banks, and it's one that is only getting bigger. AI can help banks to detect and prevent fraud, by analyzing customer behaviour and transactions for patterns that could indicate fraud. No more worrying about someone racking up thousands on your credit card, AI will be able to recognize when something is out of the ordinary.

3. Streamlining processes

There are many processes in banking that are ripe for streamlining with AI. For example, loan applications can be automatically processed and approved using AI, customer onboarding can be made much smoother and faster with the help of AI and investment instructions can be made to match your personal situation without the biases of an advisor.

4. Enabling new products and services

AI can also be used to enable new products and services in banking. For example, banks can use AI to develop new financial products, such as insurance products that are tailored to the specific needs of individual customers that change over time. Your disability policy can have automatic adjustments as your income changes so you're never left with too little coverage in the future.

5. Improving decision-making

AI can help banks to make better decisions, by providing decision-makers with better data and insights. For example, AI can be used to identify trends and patterns in customer behaviour, which can help banks to make more informed decisions about lending, marketing and other areas.

These are only a few of the areas that AI will impact our lives.

Many people I speak with are threatened by AI, fearing that it will take their jobs or that it is ripe for corruption and bugs. Yes these are true. Our role in the labour force is going to change, just as it has over the last 100 years. The reason humans continue to exist is because we are the most adaptable species on the planet. No other species inhabits as many continents as we do.

As Walt Whitman said, "The future is no more uncertain than the present". We live in an age of change and should expect that change is the only constant.

Looking forward with hope,

Warren
