Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...

Parables: More to the Story

image

In “More to the Story,” Pastor Jared kicks off a new series on the parables of Jesus by unpacking the familiar story of the Good Samaritan. He challenges listeners to move beyond surface-level faith and discover how Jesus used storytelling to confront cultural bias, religious hypocrisy, and political assumptions. The message reminds us that following Jesus means embracing the uncomfortable truths that lead to real transformation.

Weekly Bible Study List

  1. Luke 10:27 – “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
  2. Luke 10:33 – “Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him.”
  3. Luke 10:36-37 – “‘Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor...?’ ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Then Jesus said, ‘Yes, now go and do the same.’”
  4. Micah 6:8 – “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
  5. James 1:22 – “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

The Sunday Outline & Notes

Pastor Jared introduces the new sermon series by comparing reading Scripture without context to hearing the punchline of a joke without knowing the setup. Many people read Bible verses without understanding their deeper meaning, and as a result, they miss the impact Jesus intended.

The Good Samaritan

The sermon centers on Luke 10:25–37, where Jesus responds to a legal expert’s question, “Who is my neighbor?” Instead of a straightforward answer, Jesus shares a parable—a method He often used to challenge assumptions and reveal heart-level truths.

3 Powerful Things Jesus Spoke to in Parables

From Sermon to Action

The sermon ends by asking the congregation what story Jesus might be telling in their lives right now. Are we too guarded or distracted to hear it? Pastor Jared invites us not just to hear the parable but to live it. Transformation doesn’t happen through head knowledge alone, but by stepping into the truth Jesus reveals through story.
