Here is a recap of our message from this weekend...

Breakthrough: Eye's Up

Yesterday, Pastor Jared continued our series Breakthrough with a powerful word. Here's the takeaway from Sunday's sermon.

The narrative of Peter walking on water in the middle of a storm, as recounted in Matthew 14:22-33, serves as a powerful lesson on the necessity of keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus during the most challenging times.

Fear, a learned behavior, can cause us to forget God's previous acts of faithfulness, while distractions can subtly lead us astray. Doubt, even among the faithful, can undermine our trust in God.

However, by cultivating spiritual disciplines such as prayer and Bible study during peaceful times, we can fortify our faith to withstand future storms. This message encourages us to trust in God's unwavering faithfulness, to remember that He is our refuge and strength, and to confidently step into the breakthrough that awaits us.

Weekly Bible Study List

  1. Matthew 14:27 - "But Jesus immediately said to them: 'Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.'"
  2. Psalm 46:1 - "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."
  3. Matthew 14:29 - "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus."
  4. John 16:33 - "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

3 OBSTACLES STANDING IN THE WAY OF YOUR BREAKTHROUGH

  1. Fear - Fear can paralyze us and stop us from moving forward. We learn from the disciples' fear that it’s easy to forget God’s past miracles when the storms of life hit.
  2. Distractions - Distractions are subtle and dangerous because they divert our focus from Jesus to the chaos around us. Just as Peter was distracted by the wind and waves, we too can lose sight of God’s promises when we focus on life’s challenges.
  3. Doubt - Doubt arises when we take our eyes off Jesus and start to sink, just as Peter did. Even those with strong faith can be tempted to doubt when they focus more on their circumstances than on Christ.

From Sermon to Action

We are reminded that we must prepare our faith in the calm so that it can be trusted in the storm. Distractions and doubt are tools the enemy uses to keep us from our breakthrough, but by keeping our focus on Jesus, we can overcome these obstacles.
