Hi everyone,
I hope you had an awesome week and happy Thanksgiving for everyone in the states. This week was a little more relaxed on the work front, so I spent this week setting up awesome Black Friday deals for you all and a Christmas surprise or two. By a miracle, I managed to keep up with Nanowrimo while hunting for a new side gig since my writing contract for one of my clients recently ended. Plus, I finally managed to finish editing the first 3 chapters of the love triangle story for Kindle Vella. In honor of that, I have the full cover reveal for you today. Check it out! And let me know what you think.
On the writing front, I passed the 40k milestone for the next Gemstone Massacre book. Without giving away too much, a few characters ended up in dire straights.
My behind-the-scenes look at my writing for this week is about showing vs. telling. I never really understood a lot of advice that was given on YouTube and in writing workshops and I'm not great at differentiating between emotions. Some common ones I struggle with are tired vs. angry and excited/good nervous vs. uncomfortable/bad nervous. One thing that has helped a ton is emotion dictionaries. I did get a physical one, but to be honest, it ended up collecting dust. My preference ended up being my emotion dictionary on Onestopforwriters which actually has a 40% off sale right now if you want to check it out. They have emotion dictionaries with body language and thoughts that go with each emotion. It's a lifesaver for show/don't tell. They even have a dictionary for different shades of purple, pink, etc. so I don't repeat the same color names over and over again.
That's all I've got for you this week. I just have one more question for you.
Did anyone else spend way too much holiday shopping this year?
I think I went a little overboard this year. While I tend to hesitate to buy things for myself, I love buying things for other people, and I may have bought someone an entire arcade machine for Xmas. Well, a mini arcade machine to be more accurate. I'll send pictures of it when it gets here. It's a Pacman arcade machine. Talk about an impulse buy.
Have a great day and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Julia
Featured Indie Freebie-
Okay so Aldrea Alien is one of my favorite indie authors and I absolutely loved the fast pacing of this fantasy short. Highly recommend it if you're looking for a good quick read.
