Hi everyone,
I decided to send the email a little early this week since I wanted to mention an event happening this Saturday. I have quite a few updates for you including a signed copy opportunity for those local to South FL. Even though I'm not personally going to Otakufest in Miami this year for health and safety reasons, I have a friend that offered to take over the booth instead. She taking 10 signed copies of Spellbound and Gabriel is Cursed to the event for me. Her name is Becca Lynn Mathis. She's an urban fantasy/ PNR writer, and she'll be at booth A3 if you want to visit her and grab a signed copy or two. Here are the details for the convention:
Location- MACC- Miami Airport Convention Center
711 NW 72nd Ave, Miami, FL 33126
Hotel Phone: (305) 261-3800
Saturday, January 23 • 10am - 8pm (Artist alley closes at 6pm both days)
Sunday, January 24 • 10am - 8pm
You can purchase a ticket here if you'd like to go. They have all safety guidelines on their website. Some of the things they are doing are sanitizing touch points frequently, requiring CDC approved masks, doing temperature screenings at the door, and operating at 50% capacity.
If you miss the event, don't worry I'll be selling any remaining signed copies in my Etsy shop.
On the writing front, I'm now on Chapter 5 edits for Amy's Rebellion, so I thought I'd share another excerpt for you. This one centers on one of Amy's love interests.
Chapter 2 excerpt-Enter the Elemental
Panic rose in Amy’s throat when she didn't see Garnet, but her bags were still here. She peeked her head into the bathroom. "Garnet? Are you here?" The door was still locked and the metal chain intact but undone. No one had broken in so where was she? Shit. Shit. Shit. What if she's in trouble. What am I supposed to do?
Amy looked over at her phone and saw a message from an unknown sender. Her blood froze as she hit play on the voicemail. "We have your sister. If you want her, you'll need to turn yourself in."
Amy dropped the phone to the floor like it had bitten her. Why would they take her but not me? How did they find us or get past the barrier?
Giggling came from the other side of the door and Amy unlocked the door. Naru’s dark black hair and brown eyes peeked out at her. Her and Garnet crouched by the window. "Naru? I haven't seen you in ages. What are you doing here?"
"Your sister called me and told me you needed some additional protection. Sorry about the prank. It was her idea." Naru pointed a thumb at Garnet.
Amy glared daggers at Garnet. "You have a sick and twisted sense of humor."
Garnet bowed. "Why thank you. I take pride in my work." Garnet gave a mock bow until she saw Amy’s scowl. "Okay. Okay. It was in poor taste, but I brought your friend."
Amy let out an exasperated sigh. "My friend from seven years ago. How did you know she would come?"
Garnet elbowed Amy, and Naru's cheeks flushed pink. “You know exactly why she didn’t hesitate to come here.”
Naru rubbed at her arm. “It wasn’t just that. I’m also here on assignment.”
She tapped her pointer fingers together. “It-It’s good to see you, Amy. You're still cute as ever even if you have a bad case of bed head."
Naru looked Amy up and down in a way that made her cheeks heat. She smoothed out her hair, running her fingers through the strands.
"Maybe I should leave you lovebirds alone to make googly eyes at each other."
"We're not love birds!" Amy shouted.
Naru just twirled a strand of hair around her finger. “But we almost were. Remember that…photo shoot we had.”
Amy gulped and her fingers went to her lips remembering the softness of Naru’s lips on hers. “Can we not talk about that now?”
Garnet batted her eyelashes. "I remember those.. They were quite provocative.”
“I-I” Amy’s mouth went dry and she licked her lips. “It didn’t mean anything.”
Garnet’s stomach growled. “Sure it didn’t. Let's get breakfast and then we can check out." Garnet clicked her phone on and looked at the time. Her mouth opened in an O "On second thought, you might want to leave now. I think your store opens in 30 minutes."
Amy held out her hand for Garnet’s phone and checked the time. It was 9:30 a.m. and the store was supposed to open at 10:00 a.m. "Shit, you’re right. I'll catch up with you later. I’ll catch up with you later."
Amy ran off and Naru followed after her. "I'm coming with you," she said.
Amy didn’t slow her pace. "Okay, but you're helping me set up shop and you're going to have to move faster." Amy reached back and grabbed her hand pulling her along.
She was halfway to the shop when she looked down and realized she’d left all of her equipment behind and still sported fuzzy pants with cats all over them. "We'll need to make a quick stop."
Naru placed a hand on her hips. "I don't know, I'm rather enjoying the view."
Amy pulled up her white tank top and slipped her hand from Naru's. "That’ll happen over my dead body."
"Or under my living one." She smirked.
Amy sputtered, staring open mouthed at Naru.
Naru clapped a hand to Amy’s shoulder. "I know I'm fine but stop gawking before my fine behind makes you late for work." She strode ahead of Amy making sure to exaggerate the sway of her hips as she walked.
Amy focused on keeping her eyes straight ahead as they headed back to her place so she could change and grab some much needed supplies for work. She sent a text to Garnet saying. "Hey. Make sure to bring those supplies I left by later."
Garnet sent back "K." and nothing else. Amy squinted at the phone. Garnet usually sent paragraphs instead of messages. Amy used to jokingly tell her she'd be better off sending me emails. Amy shook her head. She’s probably fine. I can text her again once I get to the shop.
END OF EXCERPT
Now, I have a question for you.
Which character is the most interesting to you so far?
My favorite one is definitely Iris which I'm hoping to introduce in next week's excerpt.
That's all I've got for you today. Have a great day and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Julia
