Hi everyone,

I hope you're having a great week. I officially got my 2nd Covid-19 shot, so I've been a bit lethargic, but I still managed to get the rest of the editing for Amy's Rebellion done. Yay! It just went out to the beta readers about a day ago, so if you signed up to be a beta, make sure to check your email. This week was interesting. I got a job offer for a management position this week which I ended up turning down, but it was still really cool to get the offer. My bisexual vampire/werewolf love triangle got rejected for the choose your own adventure app, so I decided I'm going to serialize it for Kindle Vella. Oh and I got paid to do some work for Wikipedia, so you might hear my voice on one of their articles.

As for writing updates, I did some work on "Snow's Captive." I'll be sending out emails for any interested beta readers soon, so if you like the idea of a sapphic vampire snow white and a Grimhelde that's a vampire hunter and the protagonist, send me an email to let me know you'd like to be a beta reader.

One more thing. As you might have noticed from the title of the email, I signed up for another one of those cool book giveaways. This one is a Brandon Sanderson one. Keep in mind that to enter you're signing up to the newsletter of all the author's newsletters that are listed. You can unsubscribe from that newsletter at anytime though if they're not for you.

And today I have the first page of chapter six. If you want to read the whole chapter, I'll have a google docs link at the end of the excerpt. Enjoy!

Amy's Rebellion Chapter 6 (Post Developmental edits)

Amy opened her eyes, but all she saw was black. Fabric scratched against her eyelashes. A blindfold? Amy tried to reach for her face, but metal clanged and something rubbed at her wrists. Amy’s magic pressed against her skin like a soda that had been shaken but remained unopened. She wriggled in the chair and metal pressed against her torso. The bareness of her wrist and the lack of the weight on her hip told her she’d been stripped of her gemstone pouch.

A familiar laugh echoed through the room and sent a chill down her spine. "I'm glad Dusk brought you in alive. I want to see your face when I kill your sister."

Amy bit her lip hard enough to draw blood and sweat dripped down the back of her neck.

Opal removed the blindfold. Silver hair shone in the fluorescent lights and intense gray eyes bore into Amy’s gold ones.

That stare made Amy’s blood boil with an anger she hadn’t felt since she’d been drafted for the war. Her lips curled up into a snarl. "You should have killed me when you had the chance. If you've laid a finger on my sister, I'll make you pay." Amy spat in Opal’s face and Opal’s smile disappeared. She felt like she was a helpless twelve-year-old all over again lashing out with her tongue since she couldn’t lash out with fists.

Pain lanced through Amy’s cheek and stars danced in her vision. Opal cupped Amy’s cheek in a rough grip, forcing their gazes to meet. “If you ever dare insult me like that again, I’ll run you through with my sword.”

Amy struggled against the chains, and metal dug into her skin. She glanced down to see a trail of blood. The lead chains had small spikes that dug into her skin. Amy smirked. "I guess I hit a sore spot. Are you mad that I dared spit on our great and powerful Council leader?"

Opal’s face flushed, and she squeezed Amy’s chin. "Because of you, someone I cared for is dead. You put our entire nation in jeopardy because of your reckless behavior. If you hadn't fought in that battle...Joan might still be alive. I did what I had to do." Her voice shook.

Amy bared her teeth. "I was twelve and didn't know better. You were our leader. Instead of choosing what was best for your people, you chose what you thought was best for yourself. You killed the Council that was supposed to balance the power and reformed it to feed your power hunger and massive ego." she said, her voice rising to a yell.

Opal sucked in a breath. "You're wrong. That Council was corrupt, and the power balance skewed with the headquarter in Sorceress territory. I rebuilt the Council with members of merit. I moved the new Magic Council’s based somewhere neutral. I took out the Sorceresses and their corrupt Council members, so they’d stop trying to seize our clan and kill off leaders like Joan. I even contracted myself to this monster to gain enough power to keep the Magic Council from seizing our land." She said brandishing the fused Clarent and Excalibur which glowed gold and silver.

END OF EXCERPT

I hope you enjoyed the excerpt. Here's the link for the whole chapter if you want to read the rest. Keep an eye out for another preview next week.

That's all I've got for today.

Now, I have a question for you.

What's an automatic yes for you in a book?

I'm partial to anything with Persephone and Hades. I'm also a fan of fairytale retellings and the enemies to lovers trope.

That's all I've got for you today. Have a great day and stay safe.

Sincerely,

Julia
